🌳  January 2025 WikiTree Connect-A-Thon Recap
Three times a year, WikiTreers around the world clear their calendars, stock up on snacks, and settle in for 72 straight hours of genealogical glory. It’s called the Connect-A-Thon, and the January 2025 edition brought us an extra reason to celebrate:
🎉 We finally passed the 100,000-profile mark!
After January 2024’s near-miss at 98,937 profiles (and fewer than 90,000 in both April and July), this year’s January Thon gave us a much-needed boost. Our collective effort added a whopping 101,850 new profiles to the global family tree.
🏆 Team Italy Represented!
Team Italy, my genealogical home base for the Thons, had a strong showing:
-
🥉 3rd place in Division II (mid-sized teams)
-
🎯 7th overall, with 3,800 new profiles
-
🧮 2nd place overall in normalized score, with an average of 380 profiles per active team member
📣 Personal Best (Almost)
I personally added 2,316 profiles—just 58 short of first place! (Tip of the tricorn hat to the winning WikiTreer who clocked in at 2,374.)
But really, the biggest winner was WikiTree itself. 100,000+ new ancestors means more connections, more collaboration, and more pieces of the global family story coming together.
