🌳 April 2025 WikiTree Connect-A-Thon Recap
The April 2025 edition of WikiTree’s quarterly Connect-A-Thon was a little different from our usual adrenaline-fueled genealogy fest. With the site’s major visual redesign rolling out just five weeks before the event, we knew there might be a few bumps in the process. New layouts, new buttons, and a whole lot of “wait—where did that field go again?”
Even so, 667 WikiTreers rallied and managed to create 78,477 new profiles over the 72-hour weekend. That’s a solid showing—especially for a community still adjusting to all the changes!
🇮🇹 Team Italy: Small but Mighty!
Team Italy (my always-loyal thon family) had a fantastic showing:
-
🥇 1st place in Division II (mid-sized teams)
-
🧭 4th overall, with 3,387 new profiles
-
📊 2nd place in normalized score, with an average of 376.33 profiles per active team member
☕ And the Leader of the Pack Was …
Despite the slower pace overall, I managed to create 1,819 profiles, which was enough to land me in 1st place overall. (Though I definitely missed some of my usual teammates—those fellow WikiTreers who usually keep me sharp, slightly delirious, and fueled by coffee and sheer momentum.)
💡 Join Us Next Time!
The big winner, as always, was WikiTree itself. Every profile added connects another person to the global tree and helps genealogists everywhere discover more of their story.
